Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said. “Protect yourselves from fire even by the white spot on a date-stone”, narrated by Elbukhari and Muslim.
One of the best and generous works that Allah (SWT) loves and that Islamic religion urges for is giving food and it is much recommended. It stipulates that there will incur horror if prevented, as mentioned in Holy Quran and Sunnah. It is one of the characteristics of the truly virtuous. Allah (SWT) said, “(Whereas,) behold. The truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers * A source (of bliss) whereof God’s servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant * (The truly virtuous are) they (who) fulfill their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide * And who give food – however great be their own want of it – unto the needy, and the orphans, and the captive, * (saying in their hearts) we feed you for the sake of God alone, we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks * Behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer’s judgment on a distressful, fateful Day * And so, God will preserve them from woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy * And will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden (of bliss) and with (garments) silk.” (76 – 5-12)
And Allah (SWT) said, “Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine) * to an orphan near of kin * or to a poor afflicted with misery * then he became one of those who believed and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion * They are those on the right hand (the dwellers of Paradise)”. (90 – 14-18)
In the Sunnah, it is said that one of the reasons that let a man enter Paradise as Abd Allah Ibn Amr (Grace of Allah be on both of them) said, “Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said ‘give food, visit your relatives, pray at night while people are sleeping and you will enter paradise peacefully”. (Narrated by al-Tirmithi.)
Albraa Ibn Azib said, “A man came to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and said to him, ‘Oh messenger of God, teach me something I can enter paradise with’ Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said to him, ‘….smile and free a neck (slave). The man said, “Is it one?” Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said, “ …. If you cannot bear that, give food to a hungry one and water to a thirsty one …”. Narrated by Ahmed.
